You should apply to AVID if you:
AVID is an elective class that begins in 6th grade and continues to 12th grade in the high schools. The AVID program is designed to help students prepare to enter and succeed in four-year colleges and universities.

What happens if I apply but don't get in, can I apply again? Absolutely, in fact we encourage it. That is what D in AVID is all about: determination. When a student is denied for the program, we give recommendations as to what is needed to improve their eligibility for the program. Improve in those areas and apply again! The AVID program is designed to support students from 6 to 12th grade and even into college! Just because you may not be eligible in 6th grade doesn't mean you won't be in 8th grade!
- You have determination to get ahead!
- Display appropriate classroom behavior
- Have between a 2.0 and 3.5 GPA (C's or better)
- Have a good attendance record
- Demonstrate good work habits
- Would like to take advanced courses or are currently enrolled in advanced courses
- May be first-generation college students (parents didn’t go to college)
- Passing or close to passing SOL's 400 or better

- Failing multiple SOL test in the past year
- Currently in Remediation math or English program
- Grades are below C's
- Poor attendance or behavior record
