THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
Our students will visit different colleges and career options while in AVID, giving them a goal, and vision for their own future. It helps our students decide what kind of college or career certification they want to attend, what their majors might be, and what kinds of things do they have to be doing NOW to be on the right path to reach that goal. |
What is AVID?
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a global nonprofit organization that operates with one guiding principle: Hold students accountable to the highest standards, provide academic and social support, and they will rise to the challenge. AVID’s kindergarten through higher education system brings research-based curriculum and strategies to students each day that develop critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas. In class we do a lot of different things like: • Participating in team building activities • Exploring college options • Gaining awareness of professional careers • Learning with college tutors • Writing and note-taking for all classes • Developing success strategies • Visiting college campuses • Interacting with guest speakers • Participating in extracurricular and community activities |
